On Wednesday, the music industry lost one of the architects of the grunge era when singer/songwriter Chris Cornell was found dead by suicide in a hotel room in Detroit.
As the world mourned the loss of the former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman, the Mariners made sure to pay tribute to the Seattle-born Cornell Thursday night before, and during, their contest against the Chicago White Sox.
The Mariners emblazoned the Safeco Field scoreboard with a photo of Cornell during the contest and also held a pregame moment of silence.
Cornell, who was 52 years old at the time of his death, won two Grammy awards with Soundgarden in 1995.
