Giants prospect Arroyo's mom didn't believe he'd been called up

Monday was a big day for Christian Arroyo, as the 21-year-old prospect was called up to the big leagues by the San Francisco Giants.

And while Arroyo probably needed to pinch himself upon getting the word, his mother, Kim Drummond, simply didn't believe him when he passed along the news.

"She just kept saying, 'No, you're lying, you're lying, you're lying,' and I was like, 'No I'm not,'" Arroyo told Chris Haft of MLB.com.

Once the call-up became public, however, his mom finally allowed herself to get excited.

Arroyo was immediately thrown into the fire, starting at third base for the Giants on Monday.

He went 0-for-4 in the contest, but made a nice defensive play in the fourth inning and even helped up Matt Cain afterward.

Arroyo, who was ranked as the Giants' No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline, was hitting .446/.478/.692 with three home runs and 12 RBIs at Triple-A before his promotion.
