The Baltimore Orioles reportedly attempted to lock down their closer for at least two years earlier this offseason.

Before the Orioles and Zach Britton agreed to an $11.4-million deal for 2017, the club offered the left-hander a two-year contract plus a team option, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Financial terms of a potential deal weren't revealed, and Heyman adds "there's no evidence" the offer jump-started conversations over a long-term deal.

Last season, Britton put together one of the best seasons ever for a closer. He went a perfect 47-for-47 in save opportunities, while owning a sparkling 0.54 ERA over 67 innings pitched.

Britton finished fourth in American League Cy Young voting and 11th in MVP voting.
