Familia pleaded not guilty to a domestic assault charge Thursday, Newsday's Jim Baumbach reports.
Analysis:
It is no surprise that he pleaded not guilty, and the key development Thursday was that the no-contact condition between Familia and the victim was removed. Familia's attorney and the prosecutors will now work on a plea deal. This has little impact on a potential punishment from MLB, as the league will proceed with what facts they can discover, regardless of whether the victim drops the charges. His next hearing will be on Dec. 15.
