Kevin Kiermaier has earned a reputation around baseball as one of MLB's best defenders, and he nearly added another incredible catch to his highlight reel Friday against the Baltimore Orioles.
With the bases loaded in the seventh inning and the Rays on top 4-2, Orioles outfielder Hyun Soo Kim hammered a ball to deep center field that was destined to give his team the lead, before Kiermaier leaped high above the wall to steal a grand slam from the Korean.
Unfortunately for Kiermaier, the ball popped out of his glove as he landed on the ground.
The play allowed a lone run to score, and the Rays would eventually get out of the inning thanks to the pitching efforts of reliever Danny Farquhar.
