The Atlanta Braves are interested in Tim Tebow the baseball player, not Tim Tebow the reality show.
General manager John Coppolella confirmed the club has had "multiple" conversations with Tebow's camp, and confirms the Braves' genuine interest in his ability to play professional baseball.
"We are interested in Tim because of his potential as a baseball player, not as a gate attraction,'' Coppolella told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick on Sunday. "We have spoken with his representatives multiple times and all parties involved want this to be a pure baseball thing on every level."
The former NFL quarterback showcased his talents at USC in front of 46 major-league scouts, including Braves special assistant Roy Clark and the club's amateur scouting director Brian Bridges.
Tebow hasn't played organized baseball since high school, and while the general consensus among scouts was that his defensive game is lacking in the outfield, his obvious power is a sticking point.
According to the report, Tebow's agent, Brodie Van Wagenen, said several clubs stayed after the workout to meet Tebow face to face.
Tebow's representatives say he'd ideally like to sign a contract in time to participate in instructional league, with the potential of playing in the Arizona Fall League before meeting up with a minor-league team in the spring.
Tebow currently has a contract offer from a team in Venezuela, as well as one from the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
