The San Diego Padres are reuniting with an old friend.

The Padres agreed to a major-league deal with veteran left-hander Clayton Richard, according to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Tribune.

Richard spent five seasons with the Padres, going 40-39 with a 4.16 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. After missing all of 2014 due to thoracic outlet syndrome surgery, the 32-year-old Richard signed with the Chicago Cubs in 2015 and pitched well, finishing the year with a 3.83 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.

The left-hander was released by the Cubs on Wednesday after posting a 6.43 ERA in 25 relief appearances. He is expected to join the Padres bullpen.
