The New York Yankees have yet to decide whether or not they will be sellers at the deadline, though general manager Brian Cashman has already been in talks about moving potential veterans.
Cashman and Kansas City Royals GM Dayton Moore were reportedly in talks earlier this season surrounding a potential deal that involved outfielder Carlos Beltran and right-hander Luke Hochevar, according to George A. King of the New York Post.
Beltran, who spent seven seasons with the Royals to begin his career, is enjoying a strong season in the Bronx and is due to hit free agency this winter. The 39-year-old is hitting .297/.334/.542 with 19 home runs and 19 doubles in 86 games.
New York is expected to move a number of veterans should they deem themselves as sellers, with Beltran likely an attractive option for American League clubs at DH. The Royals could use him in right field.
Hochevar owns a 3.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 37 appearances this season with the defending World Series champs. He owns a $7-million mutual option for 2017 and could act as insurance should the Yankees deal either Aroldis Chapman or Andrew Miller.
