Tomlinson (thumb) took grounders Friday and could begin a rehab assignment next week, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis:
Tomlinson landed on the DL on June 10 with a left thumb sprain and it now appears he's making visible progress towards a return. The 26-year-old is likely to continue working on fielding drills and batting over the next week and then begin a rehab assignment. If he doesn't encounter any setbacks throughout the end of his DL stint, the second baseman could return to San Francisco's lineup before July.
