Top international draft prospect Delvin Perez tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, sources told Keith Law of ESPN.
The exact drug was not revealed.
The positive test was initially reported Tuesday, though it was unclear whether the substance was performance-enhancing.
Teams have known about the 17-year-old's failed test since last week. As a result, Perez has apparently seen his draft stock fall dramatically. He was expected to be a top-10 pick in Thursday's draft, if not higher, before word of his test result leaked.
Draft-eligible prospects who test positive may still be drafted without any repercussions. Teams can request individual test results from the league offices.
Perez, a shortstop, has drawn comparisons to former first overall pick and fellow Puerto Rican native Carlos Correa.
