Officially, there were only two ejections during Friday's explosive ninth inning at Yankee Stadium. By John Farrell's count, there were three.
Following a controversial called strike on David Ortiz, the Boston Red Sox manager stormed out of the dugout and stepped in front of a heated exchange between Big Papi and home plate umpire Ron Kulpa.
Farrell's efforts spared Ortiz an ejection - for one pitch, at least - but made for a wildly entertaining scene during the improbable inning. A Brooks Baseball strikezone plot showed that the 3-1 pitch in question was in fact a strike, though Andrew Miller's next offering - a 3-2 slider - appears to have narrowly missed the zone.
"You'd need a hockey stick on the 3-2 pitch," Farrell said.
