Diego Costa didn't report to Atletico Madrid training on Monday and is considering his future in the Spanish capital, sources told Reuters.

Costa has requested the termination of his contract at Wanda Metropolitano, according to Sergio Picos of AS. His current terms expire at the end of June.

The combative striker returned to Atleti from Chelsea in 2018 but has notched only 12 goals over 61 La Liga appearances during his second spell. He helped Los Colchoneros win the 2013-14 league title during his previous stint.

Costa, 32, has dealt with a succession of injuries in the latter stages of his career, including his recent spell on the sidelines due to deep-vein thrombosis. His last appearance was as a late substitute in Tuesday's 2-0 win at Real Sociedad.

Luis Suarez's summer arrival from Barcelona has contributed to Costa's lack of first-team opportunities during the 2020-21 campaign.
