Isco, Varane miss Real Madrid training ahead of Spurs clash
Two-time defending Champions League winner Real Madrid visits Wembley Stadium for a group stage clash with Tottenham on Wednesday, and the Spanish giant is facing an increasing number of injury-related squad-selection issues.
With Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas, Dani Carvajal, and Mateo Kovacic set to miss out, Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane could also be without Isco and Raphael Varane after the pair picked up knocks away at Girona.
As if losing away to the Catalan La Liga debutant wasn't enough, injuries to Isco and Varane forced the two to train separately from the first-team squad, according to a statement on Real Madrid's official website.
"The players who started the game against Girona trained at a lower intensity out on the field, apart from Isco and Varane, who worked inside," the statement reads.
Varane was taken off in the 46th minute of Sunday's match with a suspected thigh concern, while Isco completed the full 90 minutes despite sustaining an undisclosed ailment. Spanish outlet AS reports that Varane's injury is of greater concern and that the French international centre-half is certain to miss the trip to the English capital, while Isco should recover in time to join the squad.
A slew of injuries and a stuttering start to the campaign sees Real sitting third in the league table on 20 points, eight adrift of rival Barcelona, while the 12-time European champ has fared better in Europe sitting joint-top of Group H with Spurs after three matches played.
