Paris, Nov 8, 2022 (AFP) - Bruno Irles became the sixth Ligue 1 coach to lose his job this season when Troyes announced Tuesday that the 47-year-old had been laid off "as of today".

In a short statement on their website Troyes said that Irles's assistant Claude Robin would take over as caretaker "until further notice".

Irles had only been in place since January when he replaced Laurent Batlles.

He was charged with developing young players at Troyes, a club owned by the City Football Group, whose flagship club is Manchester City.

But Troyes have struggled since their last win in mid-September and currently stand 13th in Ligue 1.

There is added pressure this season as four teams rather than three will be relegated, as Ligue 1 slims from 20 clubs to 18.

Irles, a former Monaco player, follows Peter Bosz (Lyon), Michel Der Zakarian (Brest), Jean-Marc Furlan (Auxerre), Oscar Garcia (Reims) and Olivier Dall'Oglio (Montpellier) on this season's French managerial sacked list.
