5 in a row: Paris Saint-Germain beats Monaco in Trophee des Champions
Paris Saint-Germain's season started with a trophy once again.
On Saturday, PSG defeated AS Monaco 2-1 in the Trophee des Champions to win the game, which pits the reigning champion of Ligue 1 against the reigning champion of the Coupe de France, for the fifth year running. Dani Alves scored his first goal for Les Parisiens with a phenomenal free-kick and assisted Adrien Rabiot's emphatic header, which proved to be the winner.

Played in Morocco, at the Grand Stade de Tanger, the match marked the ninth year in a row that the Trophee des Champions took place outside of France.
Alves, who joined PSG on a two-year contact after reportedly turning down the chance to reunite with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, took the pitch in the front three of a 4-3-3 formation. It was a tactic that required the Brazilian right-back to embrace a more attacking role, but one that felt natural for the product of Esporte Clube Bahia, whose surges down the right flank were commonplace during his time at Barcelona and, more recently, Juventus.

PSG kicks off its Ligue 1 adventure on Aug. 5, when Les Parisiens welcome Amiens SC, promoted to the top flight of French football last season, at the Parc des Princes.
