Paris Saint-Germain is looking to improve on a dire campaign by its standards, and the capital club is wasting little time, naming Antero Henrique as sporting director.

Hardly a secret, with speculation suggesting Olivier Letang's successor was set to take the job after last weekend's last-second Coupe de France victory over an unlucky Angers, PSG officially announced the appointment with a statement on its website Friday welcoming the Portuguese director.

After Les Parisiens' four-year stretch of Ligue 1 titles was snapped by Monaco on the heels of a slew of questionable summer transfers at the Parc des Princes, Henrique has been brought in after a successful spell at Porto.

During his time in the Primeira Liga, Henrique saw Porto win the league on five occasions paired with three domestic cups and the Europa League title in 2010-11, and PSG chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi is hoping he can replicate those successes in France.

"Antero will bring his great knowledge and experience of football with him. We are confident in his capacity to help Paris Saint-Germain achieve the ambitious objectives that we set on and off the pitch," Al-Khelaifi said.

Boasting a thriving global scouting network, Henrique is not short on contacts, and ahead of what figure to be a busy summer for PSG, its new sporting director is chomping at the bit to get started before the transfer window opens on July 1.

"I cannot wait to put my experience to good use for the Club - that in just a few years, has become one of the best in Europe. My ambition, my motivation, is to work every day to create a winning dynamic able to keep Paris Saint-Germain at the highest level in the long term," Henrique offered.

While Al-Khelaifi did not expand on what Henrique's appointment means to the club's backroom structure, it's likely that Patrick Kluivert's one-season term as Director of Football is set to come to an end with the former Dutch legend reportedly admitting that "there's a 90 percent chance I won't be at PSG next season."
