Jose Fonte signed a two-year contract with Lille on Friday after ending his deal at Dalian Yifang of the Chinese Super League by mutual consent.

The 34-year-old defender was keen on returning to the Premier League when he finished his spell in East Asia, according to Sky Sports, but instead elected to join Christophe Galtier's Lille. He will now call former adversary Loic Remy - who played up front for Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace in England's top flight - a teammate at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Lille finished one point above the bottom three in Ligue 1 last season, with only Dijon and bottom-placed Metz conceding more goals than the northern outfit.
