McLaren's Lando Norris posted a fastest lap of 1:27.470 on Saturday to claim pole position for Sunday's Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil.

It's the 20th pole of Norris' career, and fourth of the season.

George Russell appeared headed for pole position but was instructed to back off during his final lap of Q3.

"Mate, you (expletive) told me to back off," Russell said over team radio. "What the hell?"

Qualifying saw multiple delays at Interlagos due to heavy rain throughout the session. Q2 was also red flagged following a crash by Haas debutant Rafael Camara, and drivers weren't able to use the final time in Q3 to complete laps.

The starting grid for Sunday will look drastically different than how qualifying finished, as multiple drivers are facing penalties. Russell will serve a five-place penalty, while Leclerc will take a 10-place penalty for using new engine components. Verstappen and Hamilton will start at the back of the grid for taking new power units.
