Kimi Antonelli continued his winning ways at the Spanish Grand Prix, triumphing in Sunday's inaugural race at the new Madring circuit in Madrid.
Lando Norris, who started on pole, lost out after a virtual safety car emerged on Lap 15 while he was leading. Norris was unable to change his tires until the following lap as he'd already passed the pit exit. He also endured a slow stop. Meanwhile, Antonelli and Max Verstappen were able to enter the pits immediately.
Verstappen finished second while Norris took the final podium spot. The Red Bull driver has now finished on the podium in consecutive races and four of the last five GPs.
Antonelli increased his championship lead to 81 points over teammate George Russell, who claimed fifth place. The Italian driver now has more career wins (eight) than Russell (seven), with all of Antonelli's victories coming in 2026.
Lewis Hamilton retired in the opening stages due to a brake issue. Hamilton came into the race having scored points in every race this season.
Norris trails Hamilton by just five points for third in the drivers' standings.
Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc finished fourth. Leclerc led 32 laps Sunday after opting not to pit during the virtual safety car.
It was an unfortunate day for Spain's home heroes with Fernando Alonso finishing 17th and Carlos Sainz retiring.
