George Russell: Wins Canadian GP Pole

Rotowire20 hours ago

Russell beat Mercedes team mate Kimi Antonelli and McLaren's Lando Norris to pole position for the Canadian Grand Prix with a last-gasp effort, Formula1.com reports.

Analysis:

Russell would easily advance into Q3 but after an aborted first flying lap in that session he would find himself backed up against the wall. The Mercedes star would line up once again and give it his best in a final flying lap as time expired and pip Antonelli for pole position. His lap of 1:12.578 would be just 0.068-seconds clear of his teammate. It was a clutch performance by Russell and he'll be the driver to beat Sunday in Canada.
