Norris takes pole for Abu Dhabi GP after eventful qualifying
McLaren's Lando Norris will start on pole for Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. His teammate Oscar Piastri will start second as the team looks to secure the constructors' championship.
McLaren enters Sunday's race with a 21-point lead over Ferrari in the standings as the team looks to secure its first constructors' title since 1998.
"It was hard just to break that barrier of getting close to Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull, because for such a long period of time, they've been the guys who have dominated Formula 1," Norris said, according to The Associated Press.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc had his lap deleted in Q2 for exceeding track limits and will start Sunday's race in last place after receiving a 10-place grid penalty for a battery pack change.
Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton failed to advance past Q1 in his final race with the team before he joins Ferrari.
