Sainz snaps Verstappen's win streak with victory at Singapore GP

Max Verstappen's historic win streak is over.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz Jr. took the checkered flag at Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, snapping Verstappen's win streak at 10 races.

Verstappen finished in fifth place after beginning the race in 11th.

"We nailed the race," Sainz said. "We did everything we had to do, we did it perfect and we brought home a P1 (so) I'm sure all (of) Italy, all (of) Ferrari is going to be proud and happy today."

Mercedes' George Russell, running in third, crashed out on the final lap, costing him a chance at a podium finish. His teammate Lewis Hamilton ended up in third.

"Heartbreaking end to the race," Russell posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "We went bold and it so nearly paid off, but it's these tiny margins that make the difference between victory and defeat. Proud of the team tonight and gutted I didn't deliver the result they deserved. I'll be back stronger."

McLaren's Lando Norris held off a charge from the two Mercedes drivers to secure a runner-up finish, while also helping his former teammate Sainz take the victory.

This is the first race a non-Red Bull driver has won this season.
