English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out of Euro 2020 after suffering a thigh injury in Wednesday's friendly against Austria.
The 22-year-old faces four-to-six weeks on the sidelines, according to The Athletic's James Pearce.
England manager Gareth Southgate won't confirm a replacement until after Sunday's tuneup against Romania.
Alexander-Arnold was only recently included in England's Euro squad after reports he would miss out on a place.
The injury occurred in the second half of England's 1-0 win at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium. Alexander-Arnold appeared to tweak his thigh as he attempted to make a clearance, and he required assistance to leave the pitch.
"It's not a good sign to see him have to walk off as he did," Southgate told reporters afterward.
Earlier in the week, reports emerged that Alexander-Arnold had been omitted from Southgate's 26-man roster. The manager later called the story "nonsense" and subsequently included the Liverpool defender in his squad.
Even without Alexander-Arnold, Southgate has no shortage of options at the right-back position, with Manchester City's Kyle Walker, Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier, and Chelsea's Reece James available. Southgate experimented with Trippier at left-back during the exhibition match against Austria.
Alexander-Arnold finished the season strong, recording one goal and three assists to help Liverpool qualify for the Champions League.
