Sergio Aguero will officially call an end to his playing career Wednesday because of a heart condition, according to the Guardian's Jamie Jackson.
The striker, who joined Barcelona in the summer, was hospitalized Oct. 30 after suffering chest pain and breathing difficulties during a league match against Alaves. In November, he denied reports that a heart problem had forced his retirement at 33.
Aguero has started twice and appeared as a substitute on three occasions since moving to Barca on a free transfer. He inked terms in Catalonia after he established himself as Manchester City's all-time top scorer and helped the club win five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and six League Cups over a 10-year stay.
His last-gasp, title-winning strike against Queens Park Rangers in 2012 is arguably the most iconic moment in Premier League history.
Aguero departed Manchester City after winning the Copa America with Argentina. His other major honor with his homeland was a gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games.
He also became his country's youngest top-flight debutant for his first club, Independiente, and lifted the Europa League trophy during a prolific spell in attack for Atletico Madrid.
Aguero will hang up his boots after scoring 427 goals in 786 matches.
