Sam McQueen is expected to be named in the matchday squad for Southend United's visit of Coventry City on Saturday, following his loan spell from Southampton.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined the Shrimpers on a temporary deal until the end of the season, and was pleased to be handed an opportunity to get some competitive outings under his belt.
"As good as the Under-21s is, you want to be pushing yourself and the next step for me was playing football," he told BBC Sport. "I've got the opportunity here so I've got to take it as well as I can."
McQueen has just one first-team appearance to his name so far, against Sunderland in the FA Cup fifth round in February 2014.
