Bournemouth announced Ward had left the club through a mutual agreement on Wednesday after an injury-hit two-and-a-half years on the south coast. Around an hour later, Blackburn paraded its new defender in front of cameras, where he will be reunited with his former manager at Norwich City.
"I'm looking forward to putting on the shirt and hopefully being involved," Ward told rovers.co.uk.
"Paul Lambert demands standards and he definitely brought mine up a few notches at Norwich and that's something I want to get back to on a regular basis."
The 31-year-old joins on the same day that a loan move for Danny Graham from Sunderland until the end of the season was confirmed.
Blackburn travels to Charlton Athletic on Saturday, where it looks to improve on its 18th place in the Championship against the struggling London outfit.
