Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink was left feeling quite pleased with his side's performance in the third round of the FA Cup, as the Blues pulled off a straightforward 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

Hiddink said his side didn't "expect an easy game" and added Scunthorpe lived up to that expectation, highlighting Chelsea's high level of pressure in the first half-hour. He added his side "scored a beautiful goal," then "got a little bit sloppy finishing" the game off.

"As long as it was 1-0 they were still in the game," Hiddink told reporters. "They had a big threat from corners and free-kicks. The threat was actual for us. They made us shiver a bit. There were some vulnerabilities in the second half so we have to improve but these are difficult games. It was their final and it was very important for us to get to the next round."

An opening goal scored by Diego Costa gave Chelsea that 1-0 lead, but it was young midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek who put the game to bed for the Blues.

"It’s difficult to rest a lot of players but we brought some youngsters on in the second half. That’s good for them," Hiddink said. "It’s difficult to know when to bring them on because you don’t want to give them too much responsibility for a result when they are in this stage of this career but I’m happy with their performances

"Ruben came on and scored a beautiful goal not just in the execution but in the way he prepared himself for that goal."

Chelsea didn't walk away unscathed though; midfielder Nemanja Matic was unavailable for selection after an incident in training the day before left him feeling dizzy. Hiddink revealed Matic was struck by a ball at close range thrown by one of the team's goalkeepers. He also provided an update on Brazilian playmaker Oscar, who came off with injury.

"Oscar had a little problem with his toe," Hiddink revealed. "He had a small inflammation which was very painful. Nevertheless we would have taken off two or three players to bring youngsters on in the second half."
