Report: Chelsea and Liverpool in for out of favour goalkeeper Victor Valdes
Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has been banished from the first team and it looks like both Chelsea and Liverpool would be interested in rescuing him from Old Trafford.
ESPN reports that the 33-year-old is on a list of transfer targets for both Liverpool and Chelsea, with the latter in need of another goalkeeper after Thibaut Courtois picked up a long-term injury and subsequently required knee surgery.
Liverpool is looking for added quality rather than depth, it seems, as Simon Mignolet may or may not have a secure future at Anfield. Concerns over Mignolet's ability to start in the Premier League have been cast following a few mistakes this season. Mignolet was also dropped from the starting XI last season, too.
It's not hard to see Valdes push for a move after being exiled to Manchester United's reserves under Louis van Gaal. The former Barcelona man was not even given a squad shirt number this season for the Red Devils.
Such is Valdes' disillusionment that the Spaniard has even questioned his own life choices, wishing he had never chosen the path of professional footballer.
However, Valdes won't come cheap, as Manchester United works to reverse its image as a club that is easily taken advantage of in the transfer windows.
