The best of Jose Mourinho vs. Arsene Wenger

It is no secret that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger don't see eye to eye. In Saturday's match between the two giants, the fourth official will be working overtime to ensure the technical area doesn't become a sparring session.

In Mourinho's first reign at Stamford Bridge, the young Portuguese upstart entered the league and had no problem in mocking the old guard. From the off, he took a particular exception to the Gunners' French boss, and dealt the first blow in 2005.

October 2005: Mourinho suggests Wenger is a peeping tom

"Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you call in England a voyeur. He is someone who likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have this big telescope to look into the homes of other people and see what is happening. Wenger must be one of them - it is a sickness."

November 2005: Wenger calls Mourinho "stupid"

"He's out of order, disconnected with reality and disrespectful. When you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid sometimes and not more intelligent."

April 2007: Wenger questions Mourinho's big spending success

"If you would like to compare every manager you give each one the same amount of resources and say: 'you have that for five years.' After five years you see who has done the most."

November 2007: Mourinho criticises Wenger's use of foreign players

"Unlike Arsenal, we sought success and tried to build it through a concept of the game using English players."

After spells at Inter Milan and Real Madrid, Mourinho returned to manage Chelsea after an absence of nearly six years.

Wenger certainly hadn't missed him, and the pair have exchanged regular digs and insults since. But none are more cutting than Mourinho's knockdown after Wenger suggested his counterpart was "afraid of failure."

February 2014: Mourinho mocks Wenger's trophy drought at Arsenal

"Am I afraid of failure? He is a specialist in failure ... if I do that in Chelsea, eight years without silverware, I leave and I don't come back."
