Manchester United's Adnan Januzaj ruled out for Swansea clash with calf injury
Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj hit a bit of a speed bump in his quest for a consistent role in the starting XI after picking up a calf injury midweek that rules him out for Sunday's match against Swansea City.
"Adnan Januzaj was injured and because of that he was out of the team," United boss Louis van Gaal explained. "He shall not play against Swansea."
Van Gaal has been experimenting with playing the Belgian international in the No.10 role behind Wayne Rooney, but could look to either Ander Herrera or Marouane Fellaini to fill that role in Januzaj's absence. Herrera may be his first choice, though, after the Spaniard put in a solid showing in that spot in United's last match against Club Brugge.
"I started my campaign this year with Herrera on the bench so I had a theoretical scheme in my head that he could play as a 10, and he did well against Club Brugge," Van Gaal said.
