Gervinho may have played his last match for the Ivory Coast at this year's Africa Cup of Nations.
The skillful winger was shown a straight red card in the team's opening contest of the tournament on Tuesday, a 1-1 draw against Guinea, when he struck midfielder Naby Keita in the face.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced Wednesday that he will serve a two-match ban as a result.
The suspension means he will miss the Elephants' Group D matches against Mali and Cameroon, and will only be eligible to feature again if his team reaches the knockout stages of the competition.
