Report: Chelsea contacting representatives of Alonso, Iraola, Silva
Chelsea will contact the representatives of Xabi Alonso, Andoni Iraola, and Marco Silva as they attempt to narrow down their search for a new head coach, reports The Telegraph's Matt Law.
The club's sporting directors will hear the trio's future plans and relay them to ownership. Chelsea are reportedly considering other unnamed candidates.
In the 2023-24 season, Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to the German top-flight title, completing the first full unbeaten Bundesliga season in the process. The club also won more silverware in the DFB-Pokal and made an appearance in the Europa League final. The former midfielder took over Real Madrid in June 2025, but he was dismissed in January.
Unlike Alonso, Iraola and Silva are still employed. Iraola, who cites Argentine tactician Marcelo Bielsa as one of his biggest influences, already announced his intention to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season. Silva managed Hull City, Watford, and Everton in the Premier League before assuming control of Fulham in 2021, but he's yet to sign a new contract with the Cottagers and his current deal expires in June.
Chelsea are taking their time to appoint Liam Rosenior's successor, Law reports. Calum McFarlane is in interim control of the first team for the second time this season; he oversaw Sunday's 1-0 FA Cup semifinal win over Leeds United to begin his latest stint.
