Andre Onana will join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan after agreeing to terms that could earn him almost twice his regular salary at Manchester United, according to The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell.

The Turkish Super Lig club will cover the oft-criticized goalkeeper's wages in full before boosting them with numerous bonuses, Whitwell reports. The loan agreement doesn't include an option or obligation to buy.

Trabzonspor were desperate to bring Onana to the Black Sea coast in time for their trip to Fenerbahce on Sept. 14. The Cameroonian goalkeeper is now expected to travel to Trabzon, Turkey, after his country's crucial World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde on Tuesday.

The Turkish transfer window closes next Friday.

Onana's potential teammates at Trabzonspor include experienced former Manchester City and Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic, and towering ex-Southampton striker Paul Onuachu.

Onana joined United as David De Gea's replacement in a €55-million move from Inter Milan in 2023. He reunited with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. However, his time at the club was soon defined by high-profile errors, leading former midfielder Nemanja Matic to label him as "one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United's history" in April.

Altay Bayindir has started all three Premier League matches between the sticks for United this season. Onana was given a chance in the League Cup second round against Grimsby Town, but he conceded two goals before losing a drawn-out penalty shootout to the fourth-tier minnows.

The 29-year-old's prospects of being United's first-choice goalkeeper this campaign dwindled further when the club completed the deadline-day signing of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for an initial €21-million fee.

Onana started Cameroon's 3-0 World Cup qualification win over Eswatini on Thursday. The Indomitable Lions will compete in the Africa Cup of Nations beginning in December.
