Ralf Rangnick believes it's "obvious" that Manchester United need to sign the "best possible" striker in the summer.
The interim manager has said his side is "creating enough chances" after the Red Devils mustered 70 shots over their last three matches across all competitions, only to yield a return of three goals. Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't scored in his past five outings, marking his worst goal drought for a club since 2010.
"This is obvious," Rangnick said on Friday of the club's need to buy a striker, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone. "Edinson (Cavani)'s contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible center-forward. I think everyone is aware of that."
In addition to Cavani's contract winding down and the relative struggles of 37-year-old Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood is currently suspended by the club while police investigate the forward on suspicion of rape and assault.
French attacker Anthony Martial joined Sevilla on loan near the end of the January transfer window.
United are longtime admirers of Borussia Dortmund marksman Erling Haaland, Stones reports, and Rangnick knows the Norwegian from when he helped broker his transfer to Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.
However, Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino will want United to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur if he decides to take the reins at Old Trafford this summer, according to The Telegraph's Jason Burt and James Ducker.
Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez and Real Sociedad's Alexander Isak are also options for United in the summer transfer window, Stones understands. Rangnick, who will move into a consultancy role at the club when the season is over, is also believed to be keen on Bayer Leverkusen's Patrik Schick.
