Petr Cech has been included in Chelsea's 25-man squad for the Premier League season.

Nope, that's not a typo; the retired goalkeeper and Chelsea legend was named as one of four backstops in Frank Lampard's team on Tuesday.

"Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover," the club statement read. "This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the COVID-19 crisis. He takes up a position as a non-contract player."

Cech currently works as a technical advisor at Stamford Bridge after winning four Premier League titles during an illustrious 11-year spell with Chelsea. The former Czech international retired in 2019 following a four-year stint at Arsenal.

The 38-year-old's inclusion in Lampard's team marks the latest wrinkle in Chelsea's recent mixed bag of experiences between the pipes.

Cech played an instrumental role in luring shot-stopper Edouard Mendy from Rennes in the summer for a reported £22-million fee amid doubts that world-record 'keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was up to the task.

Mendy, Arrizabalaga, and Argentine Willy Caballero have been named to the 25-man squad alongside Cech.
