A joint-statement from the Premier League and the PFA players union confirmed that there was no deal yet in place for wage cuts or deferrals due to work stoppages following discussion Wednesday.

"No decisions were taken today, with discussions set to continue in the next 48 hours with a focus on several high-profile matters, including player wages and the resumption of the 2019/20 season,” the statement read, per Reuters.

Senior representatives from the Premier League, the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), the EFL (Football League) and the League Managers Association (LMA) discussed issues stemming from the coronavirus spread and subsequent suspensions during Wednesday's talks.

Players and clubs from across Europe's other top leagues have announced pay cuts and deferrals to help both non-playing staff and the overall financial stability of their respective teams as revenue losses threaten operations.

In England, the response has been more sluggish amid reports that the PFA seek a collective decision among its members.

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Norwich City have been the targets of criticism for their respective responses to the work stoppage. On Wednesday, Tottenham confirmed a 20% wage deduction for 550 non-playing staff, and both Newcastle and Norwich have announced plans to use the UK government's furlough scheme, relying on public money to compensate staff.
