Manchester United will pursue a striker in the January transfer window, according to the Independent's Miguel Delaney.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, apparently held talks in the wake of Sunday's sobering 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, and the subject of improving the squad with midseason transfers was discussed.
Injuries to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have left United's striking options rather thin, particularly after the summer departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, so the club is keen to bolster that department when the winter window re-opens. Juventus' Mario Mandzukic and Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele are understood to be under consideration.
Mandzukic, 33, was available to Manchester United in the summer, but the club eventually decided not to bid for the Croatian marksman due to his advancing years. Given United's heightened need for a backup to Rashford and Martial, Mandzukic is now apparently viewed as the best fit for United.
Dembele, meanwhile, would be pricier, regularly operates out wide rather than as a center-forward, and would expect to start most matches. But Delaney believes Barcelona are willing to offload the French attacker and United are considering an asking price which could exceed £100 million.
United's third-choice striker, 17-year-old Mason Greenwood, missed Sunday's match due to tonsillitis but is expected to return to consideration this week. Manchester United take on third-tier Rochdale in the League Cup on Wednesday.
