English-born Scott McTominay has vowed to represent Scotland after meeting national team manager Alex McLeish at Manchester United's Carrington training base on Thursday, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone.
England boss Gareth Southgate had a date planned with McTominay the following day, but the midfielder didn't meet him after choosing to commit to Scotland, the homeland of his father.
McTominay has made 15 appearances under Jose Mourinho this season, drawing comparisons to compatriot and ex-United midfielder Darren Fletcher. Teammate Nemanja Matic has also declared himself a fan, describing McTominay as "amazing" following a recent 2-1 win over Chelsea and predicting "he will be a big player for Manchester United."
The 21-year-old Lancashire lad is yet to turn out for either nation at any level, but has handled the spotlight well in the 2017-18 term - especially after being chosen ahead of Paul Pogba in last month's Champions League draw at Sevilla.
McTominay has started the past three matches for United, and will be in contention to start in Monday's trip to relegation-threatened Crystal Palace.
