Everton summer signing Davy Klaassen is not good enough to play for the mid-table Merseyside lot.
At least that's what Toffees gaffer Sam Allardyce reckons when asked about the summer signing who has made just four Premier League appearances since moving from Ajax on a £25-million transfer.
"At the moment Davy Klaassen comes in and trains as best as he possibly can and does all what he can on a regular basis," Allardyce told the Liverpool Echo's Phil Kirkbride.
"He’s not a sulker, he tries his hardest everytime he comes into training."
Lured to Goodison Park as part of a £140-million summer haul that included Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney, and Sandro Ramirez, Klaassen made five appearances in England and the Europa League in September before falling out of favour in the following months.
"But at the moment we see what we see, and we see the qualities of the players and haven’t quite seen that in Davy to encourage us to put him in," Allardyce added.
The 25-year-old 16-time capped Netherlands international has not played for Everton since December, but appears no sooner to a return on the heels of Allardyce's candid remarks.
"He’s got big competition and that big competition is something you have to accept and try and improve so if you do get the chance then you take that opportunity," the manager admitted.
"Maybe somewhere down the line we will give him an opportunity."
