FA upholds John Terry's 1-match suspension
Antonio Conte will not be able to call upon captain John Terry for Saturday's trip to Leicester City after a claim of wrongful dismissal for his red card in Sunday's FA Cup meeting with Peterborough United was refused by the Football Association.
Chelsea saw off the third-tier side by a 4-1 scoreline to advance into the third round, but Terry was given his marching orders by referee Kevin Friend after 67 minutes following a collision with Lee Angol as he homed in on Asmir Begovic's goal.
"I think it wasn't right, this decision from the referee," Conte told the Guardian's David Hynter after the match. "John didn't take the opponent and also the second reason was because behind John there was (Branislav) Ivanovic to cover John. It's a pity when this happens, because the red card is not good. You have to respect the referee's decision but in this case, maybe we will do an appeal. The situation is very clear and I think John didn't deserve this."
Terry received an immediate one-match ban for his clumsy challenge on Angol, and the FA's ruling ensures that suspension is upheld over this weekend's fixtures.
