Swansea City has tied down instrumental midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson to a fresh four-year deal.
The Swans say the 26-year-old was subject to interest from a host of clubs this summer, but the Icelandic set-piece specialist has instead committed to a stay in South Wales until 2020.
"I am very happy," said Sigurdsson upon agreeing to terms. "It's a place I like to live and play football in, so I'm very happy to have a new four-year contract. It says a lot about what the club think of me."
After spending a stint on loan from Hoffenheim with Swansea in 2012, he then moved permanently for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2014 following two seasons with Tottenham Hotspur. He had two years left on his remaining deal at the Liberty Stadium.
Sigurdsson recently help guide his country to an incredible quarter-final berth at Euro 2016 in its first-ever major tournament, and finished the 2015-16 Premier League season in emphatic fashion - scoring nine goals in 17 outings.
On a day where it appears popular captain Ashley Williams is nearing a £10-million transfer to Everton, the new contract for Sigurdsson offers fans some remnant of hope for the season ahead.
The Swans start the campaign at newly-promoted Burnley on Aug. 13.
