Celebration on hold: Leicester City misses chance to clinch historic title

The champagne will have to remain on ice.

Leicester City, heading into Sunday's contest against Manchester United at Old Trafford knowing that a victory would be enough to clinch the most improbable title in Premier League history, could only muster a 1-1 draw.

The result pushes the Foxes to within two points of the crown, and means Tottenham needs to secure a victory Monday against Chelsea, otherwise Leicester will indeed have its name engraved on the silverware.

Leicester fought back after going behind to Anthony Martial's eighth-minute goal, with captain Wes Morgan heading in a free-kick to equalise nine minutes later.

A win would have sealed the title for Leicester, a modest team from central England that narrowly escaped relegation last season and entered bankruptcy protection only seven years ago while in the third tier. Leicester's remaining matches are against Everton at home, and Chelsea away on the final day of the season.

The Foxes are still heavy favorites - their vocal, flag-waving travelling contingent chanted ''We're going to win the league'' over and over after the final whistle - but Spurs still have a sliver of hope ahead of their match at Stamford Bridge.
