Aguero becomes second-fastest player to reach 100 Premier League goals
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero claimed his 100th Premier League goal with a header to open the scoring in a 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on Tuesday.

The rewarding of the tally was dubious with the Argentinian appearing to be a couple of yards offside, but he becomes the 25th player to reach this milestone, and only the third non-European to do so, after Didier Drogba and Dwight Yorke.
He has also developed a penchant for scoring against the Magpies. Aguero has scored more (11) against Newcastle than any other side, but many of those came courtesy of five goals in a 20-minute spell back in October.
Here's how Aguero stands among City's all-time top goalscorers in all competitions:
Rank | Name | Years | Goals |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Eric Brook (ENG) | 1927-1940 | 177 |
2 | Tommy Johnson (ENG) | 1920-1930 | 166 |
3 | Colin Bell (ENG) | 1966-1979 | 153 |
4 | Joe Hayes (ENG) | 1953-1965 | 152 |
5 | Billy Meredith (WAL) | 1894-1924 | 152 |
6 | Francis Lee (ENG) | 1967-1974 | 148 |
7 | Tommy Browell (ENG) | 1913-1926 | 139 |
8 | Sergio Aguero (ARG) | 2011- | 134 |
The 27-year-old has been on fire in 2016, claiming 18 goals since the turn of the year, but Newcastle can count itself unlucky at not adding to Vurnon Anita's equaliser in the midweek meeting. City's players were languid for significant periods, and its hold on the Champions League qualification places loosened on Tyneside.
Newcastle's hopes of Premier League survival, meanwhile, increased, with two points between it and Norwich City in 17th with four matches remaining.
Both teams return to action on Saturday. Newcastle travels to a rejuvenated Liverpool, while City welcomes Stoke City.
