Aston Villa has revealed its club badge to be used for the 2016-17 season and beyond.

The club website notes that that the redesign incorporates "some subtle yet important changes" - namely that the word "prepared" has been removed from the bottom of the crest.

Some may quip that this removal is emblematic of the Birmingham club's failings in the Premier League this term. The sales of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph last summer certainly left Villa under-prepared for the 2015-16 campaign, and it's set to end a 28-year stay in the top flight, sitting some 15 points adrift of safety with six matches remaining.

Despite not being a roaring success in recent years, the badge will still prominently feature a lion, "widely perceived as the king of beasts, they stand for values such as bravery, valour and strength," according to the club website.

The star also remains, representing Aston Villa's spectacular European Cup triumph of 1982.

Earlier reports suggested that this tweak cost a whopping £2 million to create, but it actually cost a bargain £80,000, according to BBC Sport.
