London, Jan 27, 2023 (AFP) - Championship strugglers Cardiff appointed former Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi as their new manager on Friday.

Former France midfielder Lamouchi has replaced Mark Hudson at Cardiff following his sacking earlier this month.

Hudson was in charge of the Welsh club for just 118 days after succeeding the sacked Steve Morison.

Lamouchi has previous Championship experience from his spell with Forest, who he led to a seventh-placed finish in the 2019-20 season.

The 51-year-old was sacked by Forest in the following campaign and then had a spell as manager of Qatari side Al-Duhail before leaving in 2021.

Lamouchi, who has also managed the Ivory Coast national team and French side Rennes, will take charge of a Cardiff team sitting just one place above the relegation zone after 11 games without a win in all competitions.

"I'd like to welcome Sabri to Cardiff City and offer him my full support," Cardiff owner Vincent Tan said.

"His appointment has come about following a period of serious consideration and reflection as to what is the best for our club.

"I'm confident that Sabri will be able to deliver what we know this squad is capable of achieving and I look forward to the games that we have ahead of us."
