Championship roundup: Zaroury boosts Burnley's promotion push

London, Oct 29, 2022 (AFP) - Anass Zaroury boosted Burnley's bid for promotion to the Premier League with the stoppage-time goal that gave the Championship leaders a dramatic 2-1 win over Reading on Saturday.

Vincent Kompany's side trailed to Tom Ince's shock opener in the second half at Turf Moor.

But Manuel Benson equalised from an assist by Zaroury midway through the half and the Belgium Under-21 international bagged the winner four minutes into stoppage-time.

The Clarets extended their unbeaten record to 15 in the league and stay two points above local rivals Blackburn

Blackburn returned to second place with a hard-earned 1-0 victory at managerless Hull.

Rovers have won four games in a row after Sammie Szmodics netted the only goal in east Yorkshire in the 15th minute.

Michael Carrick suffered a miserable start to life as Middlesbrough manager with a 2-1 defeat at Preston.

Pedro's effort earned Slaven Bilic's side a third win in four games, leaving them two points off the play-off places.

Wigan have lost six of their last seven matches and sit two points above the relegation zone.
