London, Aug 27, 2022 (AFP) - Naby Sarr's debut goal lifted Reading to the top of the Championship as Paul Ince's side won 1-0 at Millwall on Saturday.

Former Huddersfield defender Sarr struck with a first-half header at The Den.

A dominant opening for the Royals was followed by a resilient rearguard as they withstood Millwall's pressure to move one point clear of second placed Sheffield United, who drew 1-1 at Luton on Friday.

Vincent Kompany's Burnley underlined their promotion credentials with a 5-1 victory at Wigan.

Josh Brownhill scored twice for Burnley, with Jay Rodriguez, Nathan Tella and Samuel Bastien also on target as the Clarets claimed their second win of the season.

Josh Sargent's fourth goal in three games sealed a 1-0 win for Norwich at managerless Sunderland

The American striker's late tap-in added to the gloom on Wearside after Alex Neil quit to take over at Championship rivals Stoke.

Former Norwich boss Neil walked out of Sunderland just months after securing promotion.

Lewis Baker gave Stoke a hard-fought 1-0 win at Blackburn in front of Neil.

Stoke captain Baker netted in the 27th minute with a 25-yard strike that arrowed into the bottom corner for his second goal this term.

Albert Adomah's goal sealed a 3-2 win for QPR that ended Watford's unbeaten start to the season.

Ilias Chair and Chris Willock were also on target for Michael Beale's side, who won for the first time away from Loftus Road under their new head coach.

Ken Sema and Joao Pedro had equalised for Watford, who saw a late goal ruled out for a questionable offside.

Jed Wallace struck twice as West Bromwich Albion came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Huddersfield.

Middlesbrough ended their five match winless start to the league season as goals from Riley McGree and Matt Crooks earned a 2-1 win over 10-man Swansea.

Preston extended their unbeaten start to the league campaign to six matches as they drew 0-0 with Cardiff.

Richard Wood's double helped Rotherham to a 2-0 win against Birmingham.

Theo Corbeanu's last-gasp strike earned a share of the spoils as Blackpool drew 3-3 with Bristol City at Bloomfield Road.

A hat-trick from Hull's Colombian striker Oscar Estupinan secured a 3-2 win over Coventry at the MKM Stadium.
