Chelsea are set to add another emerging talent to their ranks.

Manchester City attacker Cole Palmer will undergo a medical ahead of completing a £40-million move to Stamford Bridge, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The fee could rise to £45 million after add-ons.

Chelsea's initial offer of £35 million was rejected by last season's treble winners earlier Wednesday, The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg reported. However, the Blues acted swiftly to strike a deal ahead of Friday's deadline.

The 21-year-old attacker wants to be assured of regular first-team football after making 21 appearances across all competitions for Manchester City last term. Pep Guardiola had stated that Palmer wasn't available on loan, with West Ham United among the clubs tracking the academy graduate earlier this summer, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone.

Palmer, who already scored in this season's Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup, will lift Chelsea's transfer outlay to over £1 billion (including add-ons) since Todd Boehly became co-owner of the club 15 months ago.
