Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho suffered muscular injuries during Manchester City's victorious League Cup final on Sunday.

Manager Pep Guardiola believes two of City's standout players this season will miss "some weeks" while they overcome their respective issues, according to Goal's Sam Lee.

Laporte was substituted during the break of normal time, while Fernandinho was forced off in the first minute of extra time.

Fernandinho's absence in festive defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City was well-documented, while Laporte has arguably been his side's best defender and hasn't missed a game in the Premier League or Champions League this term.

City eventually beat Chelsea on penalties Sunday after a humdrum 120 minutes exploded into life when Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be replaced by deputy shot-stopper Willy Caballero near the end of extra time.

The Mancunians have now collected four of the last six League Cup titles.
