Kingsley Coman didn't last the first half of Bayern Munich's opening match of the Bundesliga season against Hoffenheim on Friday after he suffered an ankle injury.

The Bavarians revealed post-match the French winger's issue is a syndesmosis ligament tear in his left ankle that will condemn him to the treatment room for several weeks.

Coman, 22, was sidelined for almost three months with an identical injury to the same ankle last season and was subsequently left out of France's World Cup squad. Nico Schulz, whose tackle caused the setback, was apologetic when Coman was helped off by medical staff, and Hoffenheim took to Twitter to wish the player a speedy recovery.

Coman's replacement, Arjen Robben, made the most of his appearance off the bench, taking advantage of a quick throw-in to smash past Oliver Baumann late on and wrap up a 3-1 victory for the reigning Bundesliga champions.
